TV viewing now accounts for more than a third of YouTube’s ad revenue
YouTube’s living-room audience is now a substantial part of its advertising business. Social Media Today reports that Google Chief Business Officer Philipp Schindler said connected TV accounted for more than one-third of total YouTube ad revenue in Alphabet’s Q3 2026 earnings call. For creators weighing how much attention to give TV viewing, that’s a concrete signal beyond audience growth alone.
YouTube brought in $11.2 billion in advertising revenue during the quarter, up 9% year over year. That was slower than the 13% growth reported in Q2, but the connected-TV contribution shows how much of the platform’s advertising business now comes from the living room. These are platform-wide figures, not evidence that an individual channel earns more from a TV view.

Subscriptions add another reason to watch this shift. According to Social Media Today, YouTube Music and Premium now have 150 million subscribers, up from the 100 million threshold reached in early 2024. In its July second-quarter earnings call, Alphabet said Premium sign-ups had seen significant momentum among connected-TV viewers. The combined Music and Premium total doesn’t reveal how many subscribers watch creators on televisions, but the company’s comments identify TV viewers as a source of subscription demand.
If TV already makes up a meaningful part of your audience, a useful production experiment would be to review a finished video on a television before publishing. Check whether captions, graphics and important visual details remain easy to follow from a normal viewing distance. The earnings report doesn’t establish a preferred video length or format, so it offers no basis for stretching videos or rebuilding a channel around television alone.
